Have late payments affected your business?

We are collecting anonymised evidence from businesses that have experienced late payments from customers. The evidence will help inform discussions around the Commercial Payments Bill and will be used to help parliamentarians, business groups and research partners better understand the real-world impact of late payments on businesses.

Why we are asking

Late payments affect confidence and can mean delaying wages, using personal savings, increasing borrowing, postponing investment, missing supplier payments, and spending hours chasing customers. We are collecting anonymised examples from businesses and advisers so that the consequences of late payments are clearly understood.

Who we would like to hear from

We would welcome input from:

• sole traders, freelancers, micro and small business owners, contractors and subcontractors
• accountants, bookkeepers, advisers and business groups who have seen late payments affecting clients or members

How your information will be used

Your feedback will be anonymised before being shared externally. We will not name you, your business or the customer(s) involved. The anonymised findings may be used in:

• briefings for Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords
• discussions with business groups, policymakers and research partners
• a proposed academic study into the impact of late payments on small businesses
• summary articles, blogs or policy commentary

Where a case could still be identifiable because of specific circumstances, we may summarise it rather than use it as a standalone example. We may also ask for your location so that the issue can be understood geographically. This will not be published in a way that identifies you.

Please do not name customers publicly

Please do not include the names of customers, clients, contractors or individuals in any public social media comments.

This exercise is not designed to resolve individual payment disputes or to name specific companies. Its purpose is to collect anonymised examples to help policymakers and researchers understand the impact of late payments.
